At Cloud Next 2026, we’re focused on helping you build and scale apps with more speed and flexibility than ever before. Whether you’re building the next viral mobile app or website—and regardless of whether a human or an agent is writing the code—we’re evolving Firebase to ensure you have the best tools for client development and seamless access to the full power of Google Cloud.
This year, we’re excited to continue solidifying Firebase as the premier platform for client-side developers, making high-performance Google Cloud products—like Cloud SQL, Firestore, and Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform—more accessible and easier to integrate into your mobile and web apps. And with products like Firebase Phone Number Verification, your apps can also be more secure.
If you’re attending Cloud Next, you can learn more about these launches in our Fast track to the future of apps live session. And if you’re not, we’ve got you covered below.
The seamless way for client-side developers to build on Google Cloud
We want to reduce friction throughout your app development lifecycle so that you can focus on building great user experiences. As your app grows, we also want to make it easy to use powerful Google Cloud infrastructure that offers enterprise-grade reliability, advanced capabilities, security, and holistic resource management to support complex use cases.
Firebase Data Connect evolves into Firebase SQL Connect
Firebase Data Connect lets you connect your mobile and web client apps to the power of Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL. Today, we’re evolving Firebase Data Connect into Firebase SQL Connect, a robust SQL solution with support for realtime syncing, offline cache, and native SQL—all available via a no-cost trial.
- Realtime sync lets you transform your relational data into live, in-app features, such as a newsfeed or a gaming leaderboard.
- Offline cache support makes your app feel more responsive even with low or no connectivity, ensuring users always have a smooth experience.
- Native SQL support means you can now write your queries and mutations in SQL instead of GraphQL and get direct access to all of the PostgreSQL extensions and tools.
You can start using Firebase SQL Connect with Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL and all of these new features today without providing any payment information.

Firestore Enterprise with pipeline queries graduates to general availability
Firestore Enterprise edition recently added Pipeline operations and a new advanced query engine. Today, we’re introducing native full-text search, geospatial queries, relational-style JOIN using subqueries, and a robust data manipulation language (DML) as part of the new query engine.
By natively integrating Google’s search technology in Firestore, you can now perform high-relevance keyword and phrase searches, ensuring consistent results with the live database, and eliminating the need for external search synchronization. You can also build location aware applications using geospatial queries, to find nearby points of interest. Furthermore, JOIN via subqueries lets you construct complex pipelines that aggregate data across multiple collections, unlocking advanced data model patterns. The new DML supports streamlined backend operations by reducing the complexity of batch updates.
Firestore full-text search and geospatial queries functionality is available in preview, while all Pipeline operations are now generally available. Get started today with the Firestore Enterprise edition.

New Firebase integration with Google Cloud Application Design Center (ADC)
Historically, enterprise customers faced toil when managing Firebase in tandem with broader Google Cloud infrastructure. The new Firebase integration with Application Design Center (ADC) addresses this challenge by offering a unified model for deploying and managing the resources used by your mobile and web client apps, such as Firestore, App Check, Authentication, and Firebase AI Logic, in the same way you manage the rest of your Google Cloud infrastructure.
ADC integrates seamlessly with Gemini Cloud Assist, App Hub, and Cloud Hub to provide AI-assisted tools and standardized deployment templates. This unified framework ensures end-to-end visibility, standardization, and governance across your entire application lifecycle, allowing you to focus on your code rather than infrastructure.

Firebase AI Logic updates help you confidently integrate AI in your client apps
We want to make it simpler and safer to add AI in production scenarios by reducing technical overhead, adding new safeguards, and giving you more control to optimize your resources and costs. Firebase AI Logic helps you build generative AI features directly into your mobile and web client apps without doing any server-side setup. Over the next few weeks, we’re rolling out several new features that:
- Streamline the process of adding AI to apps. Available now, auto function calling and JSON schema mapping reduce boilerplate code by mapping Gemini’s outputs directly to native data structures, keeping your app’s codebase clean and readable.
- Strengthen security of AI features. We’ve expanded server prompt templates to support tool calls and chat sessions in a secure, centralized repository. Soon, we’ll introduce Firebase App Check replay protection for one-time tokens that will help prevent malicious actors from replaying tokens to drain quotas.
- Optimize AI setup for greater efficiency, privacy, and financial control. Hybrid inference, available on Android and coming to iOS in May, lets you run inference locally using on-device models when possible and seamlessly falling back to cloud-hosted models when not possible (and vice versa). This helps you improve your app’s experience, privacy and better manage your inference cost. And by explicitly caching content, you can reduce token costs and latency in high-volume scenarios where the same context is reused frequently.
You can learn more about these updates in our deep dive blog post about Firebase AI Logic.

Dart for Cloud Functions
Cloud Functions for Firebase now supports Dart as an experimental feature. This is especially useful for our community of Flutter developers wanting to use the same programming language throughout their whole stack and share logic between the frontend and backend to build apps faster. Firebase Phone Number Verification graduates to general availability
To help your app connect to Google Cloud more securely, Firebase Phone Number Verification retrieves the phone number assigned to the SIM in a device over cellular or WiFi, without sending any SMS messages, which are prone to abuse. This results in effortless onboarding of new users to your app, leading to higher conversion rates when compared to flows using SMS OTPs.
We’re pleased to share that Phone Number Verification is graduating to general availability in May 2026, and it’s now supported by 10+ carriers across 6 regions. Use Phone Number Verification today for a more seamless, secure, and reliable user onboarding experience—no SIM or credit card needed to start testing!

Building for the future
As app development becomes more interwoven with intelligent, automated tools, we’ll ensure Firebase extends to meet you there—whether you choose to use tools within our ecosystem (such as Google AI Studio) or with third-party agents.
Firestore and Firebase Authentication are now available in Google AI Studio so you can build full-stack apps using natural language. Using Cloud Run as its serverless runtime, Google AI Studio now supports server-side code, storing data with Firestore, drafting and deploying Firestore Security Rules, and providing user authentication and authorization through Firebase Authentication.

Build full-stack apps with a single prompt through Firebase’s integration with Google AI Studio
With Firebase as the bridge between intuitive client development and the raw power of Google Cloud—through launches like Firebase SQL Connect and the ADC integration—we aim to give you the most robust, secure, and scalable foundation possible to build what’s next, however and wherever you choose.
